Reaching the next generation of care professionals on 7 March

Hallmark Foundation and Working Options in Education are holding a free national event for schools and colleges – Who Cares? – inspiring the next generation of health and social care professionals, who will be crucial in filling the 2.27 million roles needed to care for us all by 2035.

On Tuesday 7 March 2023, caring will be front and centre stage for students aged 14-19, motivating them to discover and plan their important future career in caring; during the month that we mark the third anniversary of the first COVID lockdown and remember the vital support of the 1.5 million people working hard in our adult health and social care workforce – a workforce currently 25% larger than that of the NHS.

Last year alone the sector had over 160,000 unfilled posts. In a bid to attract young talent into this vital profession, the event will share the importance of working in care settings. Mixing industry exhibitors with national speakers – including Avnish Goyal CBE, Chair of Care England, and the UK’s fastest growing inspirational speaker Jermaine Harris – and current young stars of the care world. Bringing the variety of roles available alive for this new young audience, alongside interactive music and art to showcase the impact that caring has.

The conference will also be livestreamed for free across the UK, ensuring the widest possible participation from schools and students across the country, as well as being available on demand after the event for future access.

Anita Goyal MBE, trustee of the Hallmark Foundation, said: “We are delighted to host the first national conference for school and college students on working in care. We want to raise awareness of the variety of roles for young people to build a career in the care sector. Over 1.5 million people currently work in some of the most important and valuable jobs in our society. With our ageing population, there will be a growing demand for the next generation of the care workforce. Everyone can care!”

Sue Maskrey of Working Options in Education said: “We are delighted to partner with Hallmark Foundation to showcase to students the fantastic opportunities that the care sector in the UK can provide, continuing our work of connecting young students directly with industry to uncover career pathways that they might not have otherwise found.”
