Not every young person leaves a workplace visit knowing exactly what they want to do next. But for some, a single day can open a door they didn’t know existed.
Recently, 25 students from Winsford Academy, Hope Academy and Calderstones School spent the day with Wright Landscapes in Knutsford as part of Taster Day series of workplace events.

For many, it was their first opportunity to step behind the scenes of a business and experience first-hand how a large-scale landscaping project comes to life.
They explored the site and nursery, learned how projects are planned and delivered, got hands-on with planting and paving, and heard directly from members of the Wright Landscapes team about their own career journeys.
More importantly, they discovered the opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. And by the end of the day, conversations had shifted from curiosity to action.
Students told us they wanted to apply for apprenticeships. Others spoke about seeking work experience, volunteering to develop their skills and exploring career paths they had never previously considered.
One student simply said:
“I want to build a future on this.”
That’s why experiences like this matter. Too often, young people are expected to make decisions about their future without ever seeing the workplaces, industries and opportunities available to them. When employers open their doors, careers become real. Pathways become clearer. Ambition grows.
The impact extends beyond the students who take part. Days like these strengthen relationships between local schools and employers, creating lasting connections that help more young people access meaningful opportunities in the future.
We’re incredibly grateful to Wright Landscapes for investing their time, expertise and enthusiasm in the next generation of the workforce.
Because sometimes all it takes is one experience for a young person to start imagining a future they hadn’t considered before. And sometimes, that future starts with the words: “I want to build a future on this.”
